You can access your inner power and serenity with Ocean Breath.

This is the final breathing or pranayama technique in the routine I call “Eight Minutes To Inner Peace.”

You can learn how by clicking on this link.

Ocean Breath is often the first breathing pattern that students new to yoga learn in introductory classes.

I remember when I first learned Ocean Breath, also called Ujayii or Victorious Breath, years ago I would practice everywhere – especially while walking or riding my bicycle.

I hadn’t quite gotten the hang of it and was making rather ridiculously loud noises when a fellow student in a yoga class corrected me.

My most remarkable story about Ocean Breath is about weight loss.

I explained to a new yoga class that Ocean Breath increases our metabolism and qualifies as truly aerobic exercise because it brings oxygen to every cell in our body.

One of the 22 students in that class took what I had to say to heart and started practicing Ocean Breath all day long every hour she was awake.

She only came to yoga class once a week and practiced no other formal exercise.

She lost 22 pounds!
